Yvonne is a high contrast, high end wedge serif typeface inspired by the crematorium plaque of Yvonne Desvaux at the Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, France.
Our final poster design showcases the personality and emotion behind our typeface.
Timeframe: 5 weeks
Instructor: Karen Cheng
The Team: Daniel Neifert, Brennan Jackson, Justin Tran, Patricia Lee, Sarah Chu
Role: Development of 14 characters, poster design, and compiling everybody’s characters into one font file.
We spend the first few weeks tracing and retracing our letterforms to make sure that they were refined before we moved to the screen. Critiques were spent checking measurements of each letter down to the millimeter. Witnessing each iteration of hand-drawn letters progress was rewarding.
Check, Check, and Recheck
As our letterforms developed it was crucial to make sure one small change to one character stayed consistent with the rest of our characters. Because of this, we checked each character against the others, making sure every iteration kept us headed in the right direction.
Letterforms on Screen
Once our hand-drawn letters were unified, we moved into Glyphs and started the refinement process.
